questions?
Are you part of a larger franchise?
lingobaby is an independant language club devised and delivered by an experienced Modern Languages teacher. As such, lingobaby tailors and differentiates sessions according to the needs of the group. Successfully facilitating second (or third!) language learning requires specialist knowledge and skill; it is more than the ability to speak the language.
My young child isn't talking yet, what would they gain from coming to lingobaby?
lingobaby offers a language experience from which even non-talkers will benefit. lingobaby sessions focus on language input with no expectation of forced output which can be stressful and demotivating. Research suggests that if an infant is regularly exposed to the sounds and speech patterns of a second language, recognition and understanding of those patterns will be retained through childhood and beyond. Research also explodes the myth that there will be language confusion in dual language learners or that mother tongue progress will be affected. lingobaby offers a range of experiences in addition to the linguistic input - memory, attention, careful listening and social skills will benefit alongside general speech development. As the sessions are intended for parent/carer and child, lingobaby offers a great bonding experience for you and your little one. And the sessions are lots of fun!
My toddler is very shy, would they find lingobaby overwhelming?
The lingobaby sessions for both age groups are intended for small groups of children and their parent/carer. At no point in the session are children asked to complete activities alone. The sessions are language input orientated and no child is ever made to feel that they MUST speak. The games we play are non-competitive and, whilst everyone is encouraged to join in, it is without pressure to perform. The benefits from passivley participating in the sessions are still huge.
Do I have to be able to speak French/any other language?
No. lingobaby is not intended as a foreign language immersion class and you will be fully supported in each session so that you will also enjoy the foreign language experience.
Do you only run French sessions?
At present the live sessions are only offered in French. However there are plans to extend the range of languages in the sessions to include Spanish, Italian and German which are offered as a musical package through lingobaby homeplay.
